THE SPY BEHIND HOME PLATE

NEW ENGLAND PREMIERE
CLOSING NIGHT FILM

Q&A with Filmmaker Aviva Kempner in conversation with U.S. Senator Ed Markey

Award-winning filmmaker Aviva Kempner (Life & Times of Hank Greenberg, Yoo Hoo Mrs Goldberg, Partisans of Vilna, Rosenwald) hits another home run with this amazing story of Moe Berg, the major league baseball player turned spy. Born in Newark, Berg was a Princeton and Columbia Law School graduate fluent in a half-dozen languages. A scholar-athlete, he was even a regular on the TV quiz show Information Please. During baseball’s Golden Age, Berg was a beloved player and coach for five MLB teams—including 5 years with the Boston Red Sox! As WWII accelerated, Berg began a secret and dangerous life, spying overseas for the OSS. Berg’s extraordinary, improbable story is told with rare historical footage and revealing interviews with an All-Star roster of commentators drawn from the worlds of history, sports, and spy craft.

“The question The Spy Behind Home Plate poses is which is more amazing: the astonishing man whose story it tells, or the brilliance of the film itself. This is one of the best films of the year and one of the great documentaries of recent years.” Jeffrey Lyons, Lyons Den Radio
